We've had a lot of rain today. The sun is breaking through just now, mid-afternoon, and we are getting ready to go outside.
I swapped children with a friend of mine who also has four children. I took her four-year-old girl to play with Mini-man and she took my six-year-old boy to play with her son. We had washed and picked over our berries from picking the other day (those that, ahem, made it home that is) and I was hoping to make jam today. But with our little houseguest I wasn't sure if it was the best time to start even a small batch of blackberry jam. Then, the children needing indoor activity, I decided to go for it.
Jam making we did and no one got injured, no one got whiney, and no big person got aggravated. For simplicity I did, however, opt to just fill one great big quart jar instead of numbers of smaller jars as usual. We'll eat it after all!
And now we're waiting for banana muffins to finish baking so we can have them with a bit of the jam reserved as a special afternoon snack. Then, out to the now sunny outdoors to meet and exchange children back to their rightful families at a local park.
