Eco-friendly more and more....but are we ready for indoor worms??

We're working hard here to be more earth-friendly. The boys and I recycle everything we possibly can. We rip apart boxes, flatten the cardboard, put the plastic bits in the blue bin, and of course all cans and tins are rinsed ready for the recycle box. We compost and are being very diligent this summer. If it comes from the earth it goes back to the earth instead of in the garbage. We keep a "worm food" covered bucket on the porch and are getting used to the fill and dump, fill and dump it into the compost bin at the back of the yard.

I read this link off of a my friend Shanna's blog and I'm intrigued. The boys, of course, are all for "pet" worms inside. I'm not so sure. Where to keep the big bucket? Hmmm. Part of me is kind of curious about the whole experiment and letting the boys enjoy the fun of actually seeing the worms they feed. But the other part of me knows that my husband may not share our enthusiasm for sharing our home with mulchers.

And then I wonder if the worms could survive on the side stairs. Except for a few winter days it's pretty temperate here on Canada's West Coast....

Here's the link to this blog, which has complete instructions and great photos to help you, in their words:

Save your scraps
If you hate adding to the landfill but don't have the space
for a backyard compost pile, a worm bin is the way to go. We've tried a number
of models and finally settled on one that is cheap, small, easy, fast, efficient
and, most importantly, fruit fly free!
